New preceptors are very skilled in their current role and are often subject matter experts. However, the skills necessary to perform their current role are not the same skills required to teach or mentor a new employee. Preceptors are unaware of the role they play in the new hire orientation.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the Role of the Preceptor in mentoring new employees.
  2. Define the various learning strategies and techniques to help new employees learn best.
  3. Create critical thinking experiences that guide the new employee to learning the information.
  4. Utilize a formal evolution process to develop a n education plan with new employees
  5. Describe the process of evaluating competency in a new employee and employee tactics to help new employees move to competent.

Accreditation

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

7.0 Contact hour(s) will be awarded upon attendance at the entire activity and completion of the evaluation.
