Overview

S.T.A.B.L.E. is a neonatal education program designed to teach health care providers stabilization care for premature and sick neonates. High quality transitional care can reduce infant mortality and morbidity and improve the future health of children and their families. For this reason, it is imperative that each member of the health care team learn what to do for the sick infant.  

This course is a live one day course.  


ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identifies neonates at risk for becoming hypoglycemic and implements the initial steps of hypoglycemia treatment.
  2. Describes the normal response to cold stress and at least one of the detrimental effects of hypothermia and manages the infant in a neutro-thermic environment.
  3. Recognizes causes of neonatal respiratory distress and/or respiratory failure.
  4. Correctly secures the equipment necessary for and assists with endotracheal intubation.
  5. Interprets blood gases and identifies appropriate treatment options for an abnormal blood gas.
  6. Identifies physical assessment parameters that indicate shock and carries out treatment for hypovolemic, cardiogenic and/or septic shock.
  7. Evaluates infant lab values and identifies abnormal lab values.
  8. Utilizing evidence supported practices in the treatment of sepsis.
  9. Supports the infant's family during this time of crisis that is patient centered and incorporates the needs of the parents.

Accreditation

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

7.0 Contact hour(s) will be awarded upon attendance at the entire activity and completion of the evaluation.
