Overview

In this session, Dr. Burton will review the types, assessment, and early management of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI), emphasizing prevention of secondary brain injury and the importance of accurate nursing documentation. Learners will also explore how ED interventions influence ongoing ICU and floor care.


ACCME Objectives
  1. Identify the major types of TBI and BCVI.
  2. Perform an appropriate initial assessment and early management plan for suspected TBI or BCVI.
  3. Document essential clinical findings and interventions for TBI and BCVI patients.
  4. Describe key management steps that continue into ICU and floor care for TBI patients.
  5. Explain why preventing hypotension and hypoxia is critical in TBI care.

  1. Participating in this course has improved my readiness to respond patients with Head Trauma/Injuries
